Giving up drink – could you do it?

Diet & HealthHealthHealth and Wellness Blog 22 December 2022

What happens when you have not had alcohol for 100 days

cup of tea to help you sleep

Below is an article I wrote a few years ago about joining a sober experiment. If you want to know if  I am still experimenting then read on.

Dec 2018 – Today I am celebrating 100 days without any Alcohol. Having taken the lead from my daughter LisaJo who inspired me to follow her in her own journey of ditching the drink and seeing the positive effects it has on both mood, health, and spiritual development it was a journey I was both nervous but excited to take. My daugher went onto become the founder of BeeSoberOffical

At first I thought I would just cut back and moderate my drinking, however anyone who knows me will be aware that Moderation is not one of my strengths. I am and always have been an all or nothing person.

If I had really known years ago what I know now I would have packed in drinking over 20 years ago.

Anyhow these are the top benefits that others whom have reached this milestone of giving up drink have benefited from as shown on my sober App and which I can honestly say is true for me too.

  • 84% – Better Mood
  • 70% – Feel Physically renewed
  • 62% – Improved sleep
  • 52% – Improved memory
  • 51% – increased energy levels
  • 47% – increased cognitive ability
  • 44% – reduced belly fat
  • 34% Improved motor skills
  • 15% improved eyesight

More Benefits of Not Drinking

There are actually tons of other benefits too numerous to mention. Oh and another thing according to my Sober App I have saved over £670 which to be honest I really think is more than that as I only calculated for aprox 1 large glass of red wine pub measure a day and a few extra for weekends. I did not ask it to calculate the amount I spent on Ice, Lemons (for my gin and tonics of course) and Taxis etc…

Help to Stop Drinking

As I educated myself about the dangers and harmful effects that alcohol causes on both a physical and emotional level, and realised just what a powerful and addictive substance it is, then my choice to stop drinking and free myself of yet another addiction has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.

I am aware only too well that anyone reading this who does not have a problem with an addictive personality or hardly drinks themselves will wonder what all the fuss is about, however for anyone considering doing Dry January or Sober October and in need of a little motivation – Read 5 things that happen to your body when you stop drinking for extra motivation.

When the social pressures of life and drinking culture are incredibly high and intense. Bee Sober brings together everything you need, to love being sober.

Ditch the Labels – What is an Alcoholic?

We’re told that calling yourself an alcoholic is crucial in order to quit. Yet millions of people, myself included have successfully quit smoking and as we all know this is also a lethal addiction. Ex Smokers have mostly done this without attending meetings or labelling themselves to others as a Smoka-holic.

Millions of people are now choosing to go sugar-free without calling themselves “sugar-holics”; Lots of people are now choosing to be vegetarians or vegans (myself included) and have not attended or been asked to go to meetings or to come out as being “Meat-aholics” in order to eliminate or decide to remove meat or dairy from their diet. So I am sure you get the Gist?

As I educated myself about the dangers and harmful effects that alcohol causes on both a physical and emotional level, and realised just what a powerful and addictive substance it is, then my choice to stop drinking and free myself of yet another addiction has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.

“I feel bad for people who drink. They have no idea how wonderful life really is when you connect to your authentic sober self”

IS ALCOHOL REALLY A POISON?

According to David Nutt, MD, a neuropharmacologist at Imperial College in London.

Dr. Nutt rated 20 drugs based on the various harms caused by each drug, both to the individual and the harm caused to others. Alcohol topped the list over heroin, crystal meth and crack as the most harmful drug anyone can take.

NLP  also known as neuro linguistic programming, is another great tool to help with stopping addictions as this will help re-train your brain in a more positive manner.
